The streaming wars aim to kick off a new era in TV advertising

광고 자문회사 미디어링크(MediaLink)의 CEO 마이클 카산(Michael Kassan)은, 소비자들이 스트리밍 서비스로 이동하면서 TV 시청률이 하락함에 따라 새로운 스트리밍 플랫폼을 통해 소비자에게 다가가려는 브랜드들의 움직임이 두드러지고 있다고 전했다. NBC의 경우 포화 상태가 되어가고 있는 구독 기반 스트리밍 부문에서 벗어날 기회를 모색하고 있기 때문에, 피콕(Peacock)은 가장 큰 광고기반 스트리밍 서비스가 될 것이다. 아마존의 경우 IMDb TV에 광고기반 스트리밍 서비스를 구축하고 있다. 카산 CEO는 "광고기반 스트리밍이긴 하지만 형태가 다를 뿐 TV인 것은 매한가지이다. 더 많은 콘텐츠, 시청자, 광고가 스트리밍 업계로 넘어갈 것으로 생각된다"라고" 말했다.

Michael Kassan, CEO of advertising advisory firm MediaLink, said as TV ratings decline with consumers shifting to streaming, there’s increasing demand from brands to reach consumers on new streaming platforms.

Peacock will be the biggest ad-supported streaming launch, as NBC looks for an opportunity to move away from the increasingly crowded subscription streaming space.

“I would argue that if it’s ad-supported streaming, it’s TV in a different form, but it is still TV,”

Expect more content, viewers, and advertising to shift to the streaming space, Kassan said.

할리우드 리포터(The의 보도에 따르면, HBO가 넷플릭스를 제치고 2019년 가장 많은 찬사를 받은 영화인 '기생충'의 스핀오프 미니시리즈 제작 판권을 따냈다. 칸 영화제 황금종려상(Palme d’Or)을 수상하고 오스카 작품상 유력 후보로 꼽히고 있는 ‘기생충’은 봉준호 감독의 작품이다. 봉준호 감독은 애덤 맥케이(Adam McKay) 감독과 손잡고 이번 시리즈를 제작한다. 맥케이 감독은 영화 '빅 쇼트', ‘바이스’ 등을 통해 여러 차례 수상 후보로 이름을 올린 바 있다. 이번 시리즈가 영화의 속편이 될지, 영어 버전의 리메이크가 될지, 아니면 완전히 다른 별개의 작품이 될지는 아직 확실치 않다. 그러나 분명한 것은, 어떤 독창적인 연출로 제작되든 영어로 제작될 것이라는 점이다.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, HBO beat out Netflix for the rights to a limited series spinoff of Parasite, one of the most acclaimed movies of 2019. Winner of the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and an Oscar hopeful for Best Picture, Parasite was directed by Bong Joon Ho. For the limited series, Bong is teaming with Adam McKay, who has recently earned multiple awards nominations for his work on The Big Short and Vice.

It’s unclear if the limited series will be a sequel to the film, an English-language remake, or something else entirely. What is clear, however, is that the limited series will be in English, whatever the creative direction may be.

The Trump administration is about to make the final call to the U.K. to abandon the plan to upgrade its telecommunication networks with Huawei, sources told Reuters.

The U.K. will make the final decision at the end of the month, whether to use Huawei equipment to build out the country’s 5G network has been met with fierce criticism from officials in the Trump administration.

Huawei spokesman told Reuters that U.K. lawmakers have confirmed the company won’t use its equipment for intelligence sharing networks: “Our 5G equipment does not pose a threat to information security,” the spokesman said, adding that, “We are confident the U.K. government will take an evidence-based approach when making its decision about Huawei’s inclusion in the 5G network.”

Another source told Reuters that U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo would discuss the Huawei situation with British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab at a meeting in Washington on Thursday. Pompeo is expected to pressure Raab to reject the use of Huawei.

The Trump administration seems to be “cocking the pistol,” one source said, who had direct knowledge of the British government’s stance on Huawei told Reuters. “What’s unclear is how, when, or indeed if it will actually be fired.”

But a new report suggests the legislation will only affect major social media networks, such as Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, and Instagram. According to a report by Economic Times, an unnamed government official told the publication that the content takedown rules will only apply to major firms. However, the report doesn’t specify what’s the definition of a ‘major firm,’ in the context of the upcoming rules. India’s current IT Act 2000 exempts any online entity from liability for content posted by users on their platforms.

The US government proposes 10 principles, ranging from building public trust in AI to ensuring civilians can participate in the AI rule-making process. While the US has called for other nations to adopt its AI principles, the US itself has so far rejected offers to participate in various global AI initiatives, such as the Global Partnership on AI, despite it being backed by every other G7 nation. The executive order launched the American AI Initiative, which places United States resources toward ensuring that AI technology is made in the US. China aims to overtake US as global leader in AI innovation (TechRepublic) The US still ranks far ahead of both China and the EU in AI innovation, but China is making moves to change things, according to a Center for Data Innovation report.
